Absolutely love these stories. Tom Courtenay is a great actor. Everyone should see him in Billy Liar. I remember freezing in New York on a visit one December. With wind chill on top it was almost impossible to step outside. Keep up the good work
I love all your wit and wisdom, Beth, but I especially love this one! I have such wonderful memories of our time at JR, and Barry and Harvey, of course--and you in your Eliza Doolittle outfit, and your violets. Thanks for sharing and bringing back so many 80s New York memories. I remember us and Colette in the back of a cab on our way downtown for some kind of wolves-of-Wall-Street party, and you saying as a kind of generalized warning: "It's the eighties out there!"
That is so funny. Sounds like something I would say! It was a fun one to write. I have a lot of great memories of that time too and of the three of us and our antics. We did have an awfully lot of fun. So nice to hear from you! xoxoxox
Does NY still get cold enough for such a tale? Back in the 60's, some of my upperclasman Amherst buddies would head to NY for the weekend where a few of them knew ladies like you knocking on the door of performing lives. It was the sixties, so it was still OK to wear a dark fur collar that would catch snowflakes as they fell to frame the impossibly beautiful faces of these older women of 23. And sometimes, just sometimes, a quick kiss of warm lips surrounded by cold complexion so fine porcelain was abrasive by comparison. God help me, I did love it so.
Boy oh boy can you tell a story! My heart broke for that young girl with the frozen toes and hands. But what grit and determination. Incredibly amazing how she went on to become a beloved actress, writer, director, and most importantly, humanitarian.
Fairness is doing really well. We are still trying to sort out his apparent food allergies. Have cut out chicken and we are sticking to salmon and meat. So far so good. He is a lovely sweet boy. Going to be an amazing dog. Blessed
Keep writing … your stories are so good! Our youngest just moved to NYC for a job in the Met Life lbuilding. His stories of his first subway , carrying groceries in a laundry basket and the cost of a breakfast burrito make me smile! He told ne his office has an ice machine! He is reason I attended Erma Bombeck writing workshop He was at U of D! Keep writing how is the new family member? Blanking on his name but i remember I loved it! laura i CO
Fairness is thriving thank you. HE is a really sweet boy and getting more and more comfortable every day. He is going to be an amazing dog when he is calmer.
There were some hardships for you, but wasn't that a lovely time!!!
Yes it truly was.

Ah yes--the Gruesome Threesome. Haven't been in touch with lovely Colette in a while. Sending love and big thanks for the good time memories your way.
Right back at ya and ditto re: Colette Her husband just really did not want me to be in her life. I wish her well always and send love to you!
