Beautiful sentiments beautifully written. I confess to being wholly ignorant of the theater community in New York and its dynamics, so the insight into the time and the culture was an adventure in and of itself. I am grateful that you found family there in those early days and, especially this wonderful individual. Thank you for sharing, a lot of us needed to read something like this right now.
Beautiful words about a beautiful man. Harvey's memory will live on with joy and love in the hearts of all who knew him. I am one of those blessed people that was friends with Harvey and his beautiful family. Rest peacefully, my dear friend.
What a lovely tribute to your friend. I always enjoy your stories. They are such a departure from all the BS and nonsense going on in the world…and for that I am very grateful.
Beautiful words about a special person, Harvey. Deepest condolences to you and Harvey's family. I love that quote "this is a line you cannot cross". He made it clear that drugs was NOT okay. I am the same way about smokers. I have NO tolerance for second hand smoking (long story - to be brief - I almost lost my life as a result).
And thank you for helping people with AIDS. I remember when Diana, the Princess of Wales, would visit AIDS patients and held their hands, despite objections from some quarters.
Many years ago my great Uncle had a blood transfusion and he was worried that he may have gotten AIDS. Luckily, he NEVER got it! We have heard stories about people getting AIDS through blood transfusions.
A lot of people got AIDS from contaminated blood banks. That was especially prevalent in the Orthodox Jewish Community. It was a tough time, but I am glad that I was there.
Beth, I love the openness that you express your life. It’s like sitting on stage, watching a play, as the actors move around you. But they aren’t acting in the analogy, you are simply watching their lives. I always liked to both people watch, but also engage someone in a very emotionally intimate aspect of understanding them and their soul. As an attorney I listen astutely and ask follow up questions. I have an ability to connect to people far more deeply than many.
When I was in the internal affairs agency for the Texas state Judiciary, I could get people to confide all kinds of things in me. It was developing their trust and then protecting it. Those conversations have a similar closeness to your posts.
I love understanding you better. It’s your patina of a beautiful life. Thank you for what you do. The article is almost living poetry of a kind.
As an aside about the early days of AIDS, my dad is a retired pathologist but at the time was known by the AIDS community to have him do their bone marrow tests. Apparently that test was/is extremely painful but my dad was so gentle he was far better than anyone. People would come in and specifically ask for Dr. Parsons. I always liked that. He was a great doctor in his day.
Ehug and sorry you lost your friend. I definitely get the emotion. Jtp
How lovely that your Dad was that doctor. We needed all of the allies we could get in those days. Thank you for reading me and responding with such graceful words. xoxox
This was a very touching tribute to read. Deep condolences. And thank you for sharing that story about the work you both did for AIDS activism. Especially in the time we live in, it really makes me feel good to see that ❤️
I’m so sorry you lost your dear friend, Beth but thank you for sharing your great memories with and of him, and for giving him a most beautiful heartfelt send off🩷

Thank you for sharing Harvey with your audience.
I was so glad that I could be at the memorial. It was great. The kids knocked it out of the park. xoxooxoxxo

Thank you. He would love being the subject of this column I think. He listened to it every single time it landed. xo
