Fireworks are also hard in the so many combat veterans defending the US and our national security but acquired PTSD.

Heather and I stayed in. Ever since those thinking they are “patriotic” and yelling “1776” ... while being LEO with either the actual flag or more ironically the blue lives matter variation, it’s hard to see the “USA” the same. There is at least 1/2 the country who seem batsh** cra cra.

I don’t even tell people anymore the history of Ft McHenry and it’s significance. Or the key points in our national history that were key inflection points. I have learned living in such a point is far worse than looking back on other prior points for wisdom.

Wisdom doesn’t seem valued by enough in the current times.

Cranky pants junior reporting for duty. I much rather spend my 4th of July weekends educating through re-enactments (even if I do portray a British loyalist in that affect) but my brother and I, who is a flight emergency nurses, usually get to spend this evenings tending to the after affects of fireworks and binge drinking only to come home to idiot neighbors blasting very illegal fireworks in the middle of a main road with zero precautions for fire prevention and zero warning to pill and thunder blanket my pup. I usually love a good party myself, but Jesus h Roosevelt Christ, you don’t need to blow things up.

We are not, regrettably. I have a trip the following month to run a half marathon in Orlando so couldn’t get the time off. CT is tentative to a lot of other stuff going on but you know where to find me :)

Lots to unpack here. Living in CO drone fireworks are a better option for our firefighters and mountains. This political parties and media stoke the fires ( pun intended). Term limits and accountability a in DC and the media would change the narrative to the people. We have more in common than our differences, but the parties and media do not benefit. It’s the same coin just opposite sides.

Keep writing Beth …🇺🇸😊

Fully agree though I think we need publicly financed campaigns making all big donations illegal and shortening the election cycles. The media is just relentlessly negative and it is hurting our sense of ourselves.

Power to the drones!!!

Well done Ms Cranky Pants! Expressing wisdom and facing political disharmony with not only resentment owned but offering solutions … one good reason I read your posts every time!

Reading an amazing book by Leonard Pitts The Last Thing You Surrender gave me a wake up call about every side of prejudice as I attended Baseball Extravaganza in Seattle last night. The pavilion exhibit about Japanese internment camp where baseball became entertainment had me in tears - I met the nephew of the Japanese player who’s in the famous picture with Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth… and saw the ancient home base that had been dug up for Japanese baseball from the American Indians who’d been “interned” first by other Americans before their land given to Japanese as prison camp. Our melting pot culture is less than delicious if the poison of our inconsideration of ALL human needs … and of animals plants and earth itself… isn’t owned and acted upon by each of us. Thanks for letting me preach.

What a crock of doohickey. Had to get a shot in a the J6 occurrence too. "Liberals", progressives is the real team, are not patriots. If our founding fathers were today's liberals, July 4 would be a mid-summer day, nothing else.

I’m actually a moderate, meaning I believe we need to consider a broad category of concerns and apply logic and reason to the facts.

My ancestors from my dad back in time have served in the US Army, Union, Patriot and colonial force at least back to 1761 on my surname. My grandfather on that line was an Army Colonel. My Scot-Irish ancestors in the rest of my lineage were definitely defensive types ... with all seven of my Great Uncles (all brothers) serving in WW2 as enlisted following Dec 7th. Their ancestor was a famous Captain in the Union Army who was killed in the civil war in Indiana.

As far as national security, there are few more firm than I am. I am of the Bush 41 school, though, in being deliberate with military force but when engaged there is no capitulation outside the rule of law and reason. I believe we stand or fall with NATO and Article 5.

I might recognize both the far left and the far right are equally undermining national security and the far right’s insurrection is not patriotism. Those that did the most to stop Trump and his MAGA crowd AFTER the November election were Republicans. They were Patriots in defending the rule of law against Trump. Democrats of every strip and Lincoln Project Republicans stopped Trump in the election by defeating him with millions more votes.

As the War of 1812 showed in 1814 when Washington burned down in August, it was because there was relentless feuding between the extremes for a decade, a few corrupt individuals like General James Wilkinson and Aaron Burr, and a lot of incompetent ones supporting their line. The courageous civilians and military at Baltimore starting on September 11, 1814, showed a young nation what could be done when it’s follows great leaders like Colonel Monroe, Major George Armistead and the Maryland Militia. Their courage still inspires our national anthem since then.

But that was 209 years ago ... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Even now the country literally burns down or floods ... because we cannot solve big problems outside of partisan rancor.
